I’m all about keepin’ it real, so let’s spill it…are you long overdue for an update on your website? Have you been rocking a Canva logo you best friend’s cousin made? Or have you yet to really invest in either? 🤭
Maybe you’re waiting for the right time, until you get your dream clients, or when you’ve saved up enough money. Or maybe you’re not even sure if you need to hire a brand and website designer—you’re a creative after all!
If you’re feeling unsure, keep on reading because I made this post just for you 👇
5 signs it’s time to hire a brand or website designer
1. You’re tired of DIY-ing it
Girlllll, we’ve all been there—even me! I used to be a product-based business selling art prints and I was DIY-ing it long before I even knew what truly made a a good brand or website.
I’m a brand and web designer and I’ll still be the first person to tell you NOT to invest in your brand or web design if you just started your creative business a couple months ago…
If you don’t know your ideal clients, you haven’t nailed down your offers, or you wouldn’t see a ROI right now — DIY IT 👏
But, if it’s starting to become a headache to deal with…it’s time to let someone else take over. I know just the person 😉
2. You aren’t attracting your dream clients
THIS—this right here is one of the main reasons to brand your business.
As a brand designer, it’s my job to use strategy-based design (read this blog post to see why your brand needs brand strategy) to create a brand that will attract your dream clients.
There’s a lot you can learn from your industry competitors (like this!) that will determine the creative direction for your business. But, we also want the brand to be unique to you and your creative business.
When Emma, from Wednesday Wedding Club, invested in a new brand and website, she had her peers and new prospects say, “‘I just want to keep scrolling’, ‘I’m obsessed with your branding’ and even ‘I want to be your client! You’re who I’ve been looking for’.”
I want that for you too—let’s start the process!
3. Building a website from scratch feels overwhelming
Though you’re a creative biz owner…designing a website??? Sign yourself out.
First off, you don’t even know which website is right for your creative business. Shopify? Squarespace? Showit? WordPress? There’s too many options!!
(Psst…if you’re a service-based creative biz—Showit is the best for you and here’s why)
If building a website from scratch feels like the most daunting thing on your to-do list, you could always start with a website template (I love TONIC’s Showit templates! Use code CAGNEY15 for 15% off!)
But, if you’d rather have someone else take the reins…that’s what I’m here for! I can either customize a Showit template for you or design a fully custom Showit site.
See which website service is right for you!
4. Your brand feels like everyone else in your creative industry
Feelin’ like your brand just gets mixed in the crowd only to not be seen? You’re yellin “I’M HERE! OVER HERE!”👋 But your dream clients just can’t seem to find you.
Branding built from a copy and paste logo in Canva isn’t going to cut it for very long. It’s likely that a ton of other businesses are using that exact same design. How are you going to stand out with that? You won’t.
Before investing in branding, Meghan, a wedding planner and designer kept attracting DIY and low-budget brides. But, after she rebranded her creative business, she was fully booked out for the entire year.
If you’re feeling like Meghan…you’re gonna need this.
5. Your website doesn’t have a great user experience
As you’re scrolling through your website, is it easy to navigate through? Is one section seamlessly leading to the next? Are there enough call to actions (aka buttons) driving them through the client journey?
The user experience of your website can be the make or break moment for your creative business. If the user experience is crap, people will not hesitate to click the red X and move on.
Think about when you’re on a site for 0.2 seconds and popup is already in you face telling you to sign up for their newsletter. It’s annoying, amiright?
Think about your own client’s journey. Your ultimate goal with your website is likely to get inquires, right? How can we lead those potential clients to making that choice? What information do they need? In what order do they need that information?
If you’re not feeling sure…I can help you with that
